Melanie is a Solicitor in the commercial division specialising in the rural sector.
She has a particular interest in the legal framework attaching to water resource
management and sustainability of water resources. She has an interest in how the
law and regulators proposes to deal with climate change.
She currently assists on a Qld Law Society Committee Working Group who deal with
water trading agreements. Melanie’s initial foray into tertiary education was not
in the legal field. After leaving school she obtained a Bachelor of Business majoring
in Human Resource Management before completing a Bachelor of Laws at Queensland
University of Technology.
She is currently undertaking a Masters in Law majoring in Environmental Resource
Law.
Melanie is passionate about legal education and advancing herself to ensure that
the product she delivers to the client is of the highest possible standard.
She has written two papers on Water, one which deals with the topical issue of Water
Rights being “Property”. There has now recently been a High Court Judgement on this
issue.
Her interests outside law include running, waterpolo, hiking and her 1960 Karmann
Ghia.
She is a sitting member of the Central Queensland Young Lawyers Association. Melanie
was admitted as an Associate Partner of the firm in January 2010.
