Roger Baker is widely acknowledged as a leading legal practitioner in Central Queensland.
He holds a Masters Degree in Law and is continually refining and upgrading his legal
knowledge.
He has over 30 years experience in providing legal advice to the rural sector on
a wide range of matters. His expertise lies in restructuring, property and estate
planning. He has provided advice on partnership arrangements, business restructuring
and planning, the buying and selling of property, leasing and easements, and on
succession law and trusts.
With a strong interest in legal history, legal research and critical analysis, Roger
has at the request of the Faculty of Law at Central Queensland University prepared
a course on Property Law as it relates to vendor/purchaser transactions - generally
recognised as the most commercially significant element of Property Law. In addition,
he has lectured and spoken at law conferences on revenue issues impacting on succession
planning in the rural sector and has consulted to numerous accounting firms in Central
Queensland on this and other issues.
In advising on any restructuring, Roger is particularly mindful of timing, fairness
and balance, and cost - particularly Stamp Duty. His deep understanding of the legislation
means he is frequently sought out by his colleagues for advice particularly with
regard to complex matters. The hallmarks of his approach to the law are his eye
for detail, his skill in developing novel solutions to difficult problems, his ability
to draft documents in simple English and his readiness to make the tough decisions
on behalf of his clients.
Roger was Principal Advisor to one of the largest not-for-profit organisations in
the region on its incorporation . Involving millions of dollars of assets, the incorporation
was extremely complex. He has also provided advice to one of Australia's largest
pastoral companies. In many instances he has acted for three generations of families
in the bush.
He has played an active role in the Central Queensland Law Association over many
years. He was formerly editor of the Queensland Law Society Journal. He was a founding
Director of Anglicare in Central Queensland and for many years he has served on
the Nankin Rural Fire Brigade.
