About Rees R and Sydney Jones

Rees R & Sydney Jones is Queensland's oldest law firm having been established in Rockhampton in 1864 by Rees Rutland Jones.  The practise of the law today is far different from the days when the founder would arrive at the office by horse drawn buggy at 11:00am, write a few wills and then leave for the day at 2:00pm. 

Rees R & Sydney Jones is the largest law firm in the Central Queensland area.  The firm currently has eight partners and 30 other staff members including professional and non-professional staff. 

Over 140 years, the firm has built a reputation on honesty and integrity. 

The firm's work is fairly broad with specialist divisions for each legal area of practice to ensure the best quality of service to our clients. The areas that we do practice in reflect the region in which it is located.  The main areas of work undertaken are: 

Commercial

The conveyancing of houses, land, rural properties and businesses are all handled as well as leasing and mortgaging. Advice on related business matters such as employment law, wrongful dismissal, discrimination and sexual harassment is also provided. 

Litigation

The firm has a very strong litigation practice, particularly in the area of master/servant negligence actions and motor vehicle compensation claims.  The firm also handles other commercial and civil litigation. 

Wills & Estates

Being a long established legal practice, Rees R & Sydney Jones has a very strong estate administration and Will division. Our strong room contains over 10,000 Wills. Many of our clients' families have been with the firm for several generations. 

Rural

Rees R & Sydney Jones has a large rural client base which has been built up over decades.  All aspects of agri-business, mining and resumption are handled by our specialist team.

Family Law

The firms family law division has the knowledge and experience to support our clients and other professionals in the planning and protection of all family law matters.
